Why it exists

Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) starts refusing connections under high connection volume, even though plain mstsc.exe with “Always ask for credentials” still reaches the same hosts. InfraServ Manager exists to fix that specific problem — not to be a general-purpose remote-access platform.

It's built on the same MsRdpClient control that powers mstsc.exe, RDCMan, and Remote Desktop Connection Manager itself, organizing hosts into a nestable folder tree with drag-and-drop reorganization, a pinned Favorites view, and one session tab per host.

It's scoped deliberately: Windows-only, RDP-only, no cross-platform ambition, no SSH or VNC, no multi-device sync — the fastest path to a reliable fix rather than a bigger platform.

Capabilities

Host inventory

A folder tree with arbitrary nesting, drag-and-drop reorganization, per-item icons, and a pinned Favorites view.

Credential handling

DPAPI-encrypted local credential store, direct-entry only, with folder-level inheritance overridable per host, plus a per-connection “always prompt” mode.

Connection reliability

A configurable concurrency ceiling, staggered/jittered connects, retry with exponential backoff, and per-host reachability prechecks — the actual differentiator over RDCMan.

Honest failure reporting

Distinguishes auth-rejected, CredSSP-refused, connection-limit-reached, host-unreachable, and certificate-untrusted failures instead of a generic error.

RDCMan import

Imports folder, host, and RDP-setting structure from .rdg files. Never auto-decrypts another process's DPAPI-protected passwords.

Diagnostics log

A per-connection log of what was attempted and what came back, exportable and redacted.

Who it's for

  • Admins juggling more RDP hosts than RDCMan can reliably hold open at once
  • Anyone tired of RDCMan silently failing to connect under load
  • Windows-only shops that don't need SSH, VNC, or cross-platform support

What it isn't

  • SSH or VNC — RDP only, by definition
  • Cross-platform support — MsRdpClient is Windows-only by construction
  • Multi-device sync or team-shared credentials
