Comet Weaver

Comet Weaver Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 15, 2026

Last updated: October 16, 2026

Comet Weaver ("the game", "we", "us") is an arcade game published by Onyx River Technologies LLC. This policy explains what information the game handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. It covers the Android and iOS apps and the web version.

The short version:

  • No account. Comet Weaver has no sign-in and no account system. Your progress and settings stay on your device.
  • Public leaderboards, only if you're 13 or older. If you're 13 or older, the game connects to our leaderboard server with a random install ID, and sends a score when it's good enough for a public leaderboard, together with the name and country you picked. Names are built from our own word lists (for example "Swift Comet"); there's no typing and no chat. Players under 13 can look at the leaderboards but never send scores or pick a name (section 3).
  • Ads come from Google; purchases go through Google Play or the App Store. The Android and iOS apps show ads from Google AdMob and offer one optional purchase, Remove Ads. Google's ad service collects some information from your device, described below. The web version has no ad service and sells nothing.
  • A one-time age question. Before any ad is requested, the game asks for your month and year of birth. The answer stays on your device and is used only to choose the right ad settings for your age.
  • Children under 13 get only non-personalized, general-audience ads, with no advertising identifier. Players aged 13 to 15 get only non-personalized ads.
  • Players 16 and over may see personalized ads, and you choose. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent first. In the United States you can opt out at any time. On iPhone and iPad, Apple asks whether you allow tracking. Whatever you choose, the whole game works the same.
  • We never see your name, email address, contacts, precise location or payment details, and we don't sell information for money.

1. Information stored on your device

The game keeps the following in its private storage on your device so that it works and remembers your progress:

  • your best scores, stardust, unlocked comet mods, palettes, instruments and achievements ("constellations"), and run statistics such as total loops and your biggest loop;
  • your settings: music and sound volume, haptics, reduce motion, palette, instrument, and whether you've seen the tutorial;
  • your month and year of birth, from the age question (section 5);
  • what the ad rules need: whether you've seen the one-time "Ads keep Comet Weaver free" notice, and when the last full-screen ad played, so that ads stay at least 7 minutes apart even after you restart the game;
  • whether you've bought Remove Ads (the game's copy of the answer from Google Play or the App Store).

None of this is sent to us, except the leaderboard information described in section 3. Settings → Reset progress erases your stardust, unlocks, constellations and best scores. Uninstalling the game, or clearing its storage in your device settings, erases everything, including your month and year of birth.

The game doesn't ask for permission to use your camera, microphone, photos, contacts or location. On Android it uses network access, which ads, purchases and the leaderboards need and which Android grants without a prompt.

2. Sharing a score

On a Daily Weave results card, tapping SHARE copies one line of text to your device's clipboard, for example "Comet Weaver Daily #12 ★ 48,210 · weave x7 · sector 5". You decide whether to paste it anywhere. It contains no name, device identifier or location, and nothing is sent to us.

3. Public leaderboards

The Android and iOS apps have Daily, Weekly, Monthly and All-time leaderboards. Every score is kept on your device's own leaderboard. A score is sent to our leaderboard server only when it's good enough to enter a public board's top 1000 (if the game can't download the current top-1000 cutoffs, it sends the score and our server decides).

What's sent, for players 13 and over: when the game starts, it connects to our server with the random install ID below, so it's ready to send a qualifying score. The name and country go with your first score that's sent, and again whenever you change them in Settings. This is what the server receives:

  • the name you build by picking words from the game's own lists, for example "Swift Comet" (you can't type a name, so it can never be your real name or contain personal information);
  • the country you pick from a list (pre-filled from your device's language and region setting, never from your location);
  • the score and run details needed to check it's genuine, such as the board, the run's length and the version of the game;
  • a random install ID created by the game, so your scores stay together and you can pick a new name (at most once a day);
  • your IP address, which our server sees as part of any connection and uses only to limit abuse; the leaderboard stores only a scrambled (hashed) form of it, our web server's security logs keep it for a short time, and it's never shown.

What's public: the top 250 of each board show the name, country and score on the game's leaderboard screen and on our website. Nothing else about you is shown.

Players under 13 (by the age question, section 5) can view the leaderboards, which only downloads the public board files. The game never creates an install ID for them, never sends their scores and never asks them for a name. Their scores stay on the device.

Names: we choose and review every word in the lists, and players can't type text or send messages to each other. Several players can have the same name.

Deleting your leaderboard data: in Settings → Delete my leaderboard data, the game asks our server to delete your name, country and scores straight away; your entries disappear from the public boards within a minute or two. Your scores on your device stay. After that the game sends nothing to the leaderboard until you choose a name again. (If we removed a player for cheating, we delete their name and scores but keep a record of the removal.) You can also ask us by email (section 14).

How long we keep it: Daily boards for 90 days, Weekly for 1 year, Monthly for 2 years, All-time for as long as the game runs; only the top 1000 per board are kept, or until you delete your leaderboard data.

The leaderboard server is run by us, Onyx River Technologies, on our own servers in the United States. We don't sell or share leaderboard information with anyone.

4. Ads: Google AdMob (Android and iOS apps)

Comet Weaver is free and supported by ads:

  • a full-screen ad at the end of some runs, after the run ends and before your results. Never during a run, never on the first run after you open the game, and at most one every 7 minutes;
  • optional ads you can choose to watch to continue a run. Nothing happens if you don't.

The ads come from Google AdMob, through Google's Mobile Ads SDK and Google's consent tool (the User Messaging Platform), which are built into the Android and iOS apps. Google receives this information directly from your device; we don't receive it.

What Google's ad service may collect:

  • device and advertising identifiers: on Android, the advertising ID and the app set ID; on iPhone and iPad, the identifier for vendors and, only if you allow tracking, the advertising identifier;
  • your IP address, and the approximate location Google works out from it (never your precise location);
  • device and app information and diagnostics, such as the device model, operating system, app version, how long the app takes to start, and whether it hangs or crashes;
  • information about the ads shown and your interactions with them, for example whether an ad was shown or tapped.

What Google uses it for: to deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, prevent fraud and abuse, and, only where you allow it (section 6), personalize ads.

Ad content: ads are limited to content suitable for general audiences with parental guidance (AdMob's "PG" rating) for everyone, and to general-audience content (AdMob's "G" rating) for players under 13.

5. The age question, young players and children

The first time you play, before any ad is requested, the game asks for your month and year of birth. It asks everyone, wherever you live. There is no preset answer and no hint of a "right" one.

  • Why we ask: to treat younger players the way the law and Google Play's Families policy require.
  • Where it's kept: on your device only. It's never sent to us or to Google; only the ad settings below go with each ad request.
  • How the age is worked out: because only the month and year are asked, we count you as the younger possible age (as if your birthday that month hasn't come yet).
  • Under 13: every ad request is marked as "child-directed" under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Ads are non-personalized and rated G, no advertising identifier is used, and you're never asked to allow tracking.
  • 13 to 15: only non-personalized ads, with Google's restricted data processing, so your information is never "sold" or "shared" for advertising. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ad requests are also marked as coming from someone under the age of consent, so you won't be asked for ad consent. You're never asked to allow tracking.
  • 16 and over: ads may be personalized, subject to your choices in section 5.

Children's privacy. Comet Weaver is made for everyone, including children. We don't ask children for, and the game doesn't collect, names, email addresses, contacts, photos or any other personal information. For a child's ad requests, Google processes limited technical information, such as the IP address and device information, only to show non-personalized ads, measure them and prevent fraud. If you're a parent or guardian and have a question, or you believe your child has sent us personal information (for example by email), contact us (section 14) and we'll delete it.

6. Your ad choices

  • The "Ads keep Comet Weaver free" notice. Before any ad choice, players 16 and over see a short, one-time message: personalized ads earn more and help keep the game free. It's information only. It isn't shown to younger players or to anyone who bought Remove Ads.
  • Nothing is locked. Whatever you choose about personalized ads or tracking, the whole game stays free and works the same.
  • In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks whether you agree to personalized ads before any are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy options.
  • In the United States (including Puerto Rico and the US territories), ads may be personalized. Under some state privacy laws, such as California's, this counts as "selling" or "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy options ("Do not sell or share my personal information"). Opting out doesn't change anything else in the game.
  • On iPhone and iPad, players 16 and over are asked by Apple whether Comet Weaver may track their activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", the advertising identifier isn't shared and ads aren't personalized with it. You can change this at any time in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings (under Google → Ads, or Privacy → Ads, depending on the device).
  • Remove Ads (section 7) removes the end-of-run ads. Ads you choose to watch to continue a run stay available if you want them.

7. Purchases: Google Play and the App Store

Comet Weaver offers one optional, one-time purchase, Remove Ads. If you buy it, Google Play (on Android) or the App Store (on iPhone and iPad) processes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. We never receive your payment details, name or email address. The game only receives confirmation of the purchase from the store, so it can remove the ads, keep them removed, and restore the purchase if you reinstall or use Restore purchases.

8. App stores, diagnostics and the web version

Comet Weaver is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store, which handle downloads. If the game crashes, Google Play and Android, or Apple on iPhone and iPad, may send diagnostic reports to us through the Google Play Console or App Store Connect, depending on your device settings. These reports describe the technical problem and don't identify you to us.

The web version contains no ad service and no purchases: it shows no ads from Google, sells nothing and sends nothing. What it stores (progress and settings) stays in your browser's storage for the site. The website that hosts it may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and operation.

9. How we use information

We use the information described above only to:

  • run the game and remember your progress;
  • run the public leaderboards for players 13 and over, and keep them fair (section 3);
  • show ads and handle purchases, through Google and Apple;
  • respect your privacy choices, your age and the law (sections 5 and 6);
  • reply when you contact us.

We don't sell personal information for money, and we don't build profiles of players. The only "sale" or "sharing" in the legal sense is the advertising data Google uses for personalized ads for players 16 and over, described in sections 4 and 6, which you can opt out of. Leaderboard information is never sold or shared.

10. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the legal bases for processing are:

  • Consent: for personalized advertising, collected through Google's consent form (and, on iPhone and iPad, Apple's tracking prompt). You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → Privacy options.
  • Legitimate interests: for showing non-personalized ads that keep the game free, for running the public leaderboards you choose to appear on, and for preventing fraud and cheating.
  • Contract: for processing a purchase you make.
  • Legal obligation: where we must keep or disclose information by law.

Google acts as an independent controller, or as our processor where applicable, for the information its services collect, and may transfer information internationally under its own safeguards.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or US state laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information held about you;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • restrict or object to how it's used;
  • withdraw consent;
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising;
  • not be treated differently for using these rights.

How to use these rights:

  • Information on your device: you hold it yourself. Erase it with Settings → Reset progress, or by uninstalling the game.
  • Advertising choices: use Settings → Privacy options and your device's ad and tracking settings (section 6).
  • Information Google's services hold: use Google's tools at https://myaccount.google.com.
  • Your leaderboard entries: use Settings → Delete my leaderboard data in the game (section 3), or contact us (section 14) with your leaderboard name and we'll delete your name and scores.
  • Anything you emailed us: contact us and we'll respond within the time the law requires.

You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

12. Security and retention

Information stored by the game stays in the game's private storage on your device. Google's services send information over encrypted connections. The only information about players on our own servers is the leaderboard information in section 3 (leaderboard name, country, scores, install ID), sent over encrypted connections and kept only for the periods listed there; IP addresses in security logs are kept for a short time only. If you email us, we keep the correspondence only as long as we need it to help you.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the dates at the top and post the new version at https://www.onyxrivertech.com/products/comet-weaver/privacy. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the game before it takes effect.
