Detective Thomas Blake

Detective Thomas Blake Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 14, 2026

Last updated: October 14, 2026

Detective Thomas Blake ("the game", "we", "us") is a case-file logic-puzzle game for adults, published by Onyx River Technologies LLC. This policy explains what information the game handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.

The short version:

  • For adults only. Detective Thomas Blake is for players 18 and over. It asks your age the first time you open it, and it isn't directed at children.
  • No account and no personal details. The game has no account system and never asks for your name, email address or contacts. Your progress, settings and a record of your purchases are stored only on your device.
  • Ads are provided by Google; purchases by Google or Apple. The game shows ads through Google AdMob. Purchases go through Google Play on Android and the App Store on iPhone. Those services collect some information, described below.
  • Personalized ads help keep the game free, and you choose. Ads may be personalized unless you say no. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent first. In the United States you can opt out. On iPhone, Apple asks whether you allow tracking. Whatever you choose, the game stays free to play.
  • We never see your name, email address, contacts, precise location or payment details, and we don't sell information for money.
  • The game itself never connects to a server of ours. There is no Onyx River server behind it.

1. Who the game is for

Detective Thomas Blake is intended for adults aged 18 and over. The first time you open it, the game asks whether you are 18 or older. If you answer no, the game doesn't continue. Your answer is stored only on your device.

The game is not directed at children and not intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we'll delete it.

2. Information stored on your device

The game keeps the following on your device so that it works and remembers where you are:

  • Your answer to the age question and when you gave it.
  • Puzzle progress: cases solved, times, hints used, your marks on the current puzzle, which case files and story pages you have opened, and your streak.
  • Your settings, such as large text, the timer, sound and music.
  • Your daily count of free hints.
  • A record of which products you own (Remove Ads and any Season Passes), so the game works offline.
  • When the last ad was shown, so ads aren't shown too often.
  • A count of how many times you've opened the game.

None of this is sent to us. You can erase your progress at any time with Settings → Reset progress. Uninstalling the game deletes everything.

3. Information collected by Google services

Detective Thomas Blake uses the following Google services. Each one collects information under its own privacy policy, and we don't control what they collect.

Google AdMob (advertising)

The game is free and supported by ads: an ad before opening a case (never before your first one, and at most one every ten minutes), and optional ads you can choose to watch for an extra hint once the day's free hints are used up. Ads are limited to content rated for mature audiences (Google's "MA" rating, the highest it allows).

What AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK) may collect:

  • your device's advertising ID (and, on Android, the app set ID);
  • your IP address and the approximate location derived from it;
  • device and app information;
  • performance and diagnostic information, such as crash and load-time data;
  • information about the ads shown and your interactions with them.

What it's used for:

  • delivering and measuring ads;
  • preventing fraud;
  • with your permission where required, personalizing ads.

Your controls:

  • In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform) asks whether you agree to personalized ads before any are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices.
  • In US states with privacy laws, ads may be personalized. Under some state laws, such as California's, this counts as "selling" or "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy choices ("Do not sell or share my personal information"). Opting out doesn't change anything else in the game.
  • On iPhone, Apple asks whether Detective Thomas Blake may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. The advertising identifier (IDFA) is used only if you choose "Allow". If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", it isn't shared and ads aren't personalized with it. You can change this at any time in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • On any Android device, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings under Google → Ads.
  • Remove Ads: this one-time purchase removes the ads shown before cases. A Season Pass also turns off the ads before that season's cases. Optional ads that you choose to watch for a hint remain available.
  • Nothing in the game is locked because of the privacy choices you make.

How Google uses information from apps that use its services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Google Play Billing and the Apple App Store (in-app purchases)

If you buy Remove Ads or a Season Pass, Google Play (on Android) or the App Store (on iPhone) processes the payment. We never receive your payment details. The game receives only confirmation of which products you own, keeps that record on your device, and checks it with the store so purchases can be restored if you reinstall.

Google Play, Android and Apple (app diagnostics)

If the game crashes, Google Play and Android, or Apple on iPhone, may send diagnostic reports to us through the Google Play Console or App Store Connect, depending on your device settings. These reports describe the technical problem and don't identify you to us.

4. Sharing

If you use the game's share button, the game opens your device's share sheet with a short, spoiler-free line of text, and you choose where to send it. We don't see who you send it to, and nothing you share comes back to the game. On a computer the text is copied to the clipboard instead.

5. How we use information

We use the information described above only to:

  • run the game and remember your progress;
  • show ads and handle purchases, through Google and Apple;
  • respect your privacy choices and the law;
  • respond to you when you contact us.

If you email us, we receive your email address and message, and use them only to reply.

We don't sell personal information for money, and we don't build profiles of players. The only "sale" or "sharing" in the legal sense is the advertising data Google uses for personalized ads, described in section 3, which you can opt out of.

6. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the legal bases for processing are:

  • Consent: for personalized advertising, collected through Google's consent form (and, on iPhone, Apple's tracking prompt). You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → Privacy choices.
  • Legitimate interests: for showing non-personalized ads that support a free game, and for preventing fraud.
  • Contract: for processing a purchase you make.
  • Legal obligation: where we must keep or disclose information by law.

Google acts as an independent controller, or as our processor where applicable, for the information its services collect. Google may transfer information internationally under its own safeguards.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or US state laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information held about you;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • restrict or object to how it's used;
  • withdraw consent;
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising;
  • not be treated differently for exercising these rights.

How to use these rights:

  • Information on your device: you hold it yourself. Delete your progress with Settings → Reset progress, or everything by uninstalling.
  • Advertising choices: use Settings → Privacy choices, Apple's tracking setting on iPhone, and your device's ad settings.
  • Information Google services hold: use Google's tools at https://myaccount.google.com.
  • Information you emailed us: contact us and we'll respond within the time the law requires.

You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

8. Security

Information stored by the game stays in the game's private storage on your device. Google and Apple services transmit information over encrypted connections. Because we don't run servers that store your information, there's no central database of players' information to breach.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version at https://www.onyxrivertech.com/products/detective-thomas-blake/privacy. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the game.
